National Average 30-year Fixed Mortgage Rates since 1972

We keep hearing that mortgage rates are the lowest in recorded history and it is true. Let’s take a peek back in time and see the way the mortgage interest rates have evolved. Do you remember the times when the rates were above 16%? Looking at the chart below (Please click on the link below the chart to see a large version of the chart) where the average yearly 30-year fixed mortgage rate is displayed we can see how far away we are today from the colossal rates of the 80’s. So far in 2013 the 30-year fixed rate stands at an amazing 3.41% with 0.7 points.
